We need your support to help us deliver creative life skills workshops, basic skills sessions, and leisure activities. The project runs on Mondays & Wednesdays from 10am-3pm.

Off the Streets and into Work (OSW) is a registered charity with unrivalled expertise in tackling homelessness by supporting individuals to access education, training, volunteering and employment. OSW is a pioneering organisation that influences government policies on services for people who are homeless.
OSW is looking for skilled and committed individuals to further strengthen our Board of Trustees, who can contribute effectively to thinking on both strategic and practical issues. The Board is particularly looking to strengthen its knowledge in the areas of fundraising and government /public sector contracts. We are also seeking contributions from people with experience of homelessness and of homelessness services and legal expertise. However, we would welcome applications from any individual who can add to the level of relevant skills on the Trustee Board. Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic communities are currently under-represented on our board, as are women. You would need to commit to five/six early evening board meetings a year as well as occasional planning days and other organisational events. The positions are voluntary, but training is available and expenses are reimbursed.

Planet Aid UK

Planet Aid UK is looking for volunteers to participate in its 2 year volunteer scheme, involving 6 months living in Birmingham with other volunteers and working for the charity, 6 months volunteering in Africa or India, and then a year working in Europe, either setting up your own or expanding work for the charity in a country in Europe.

Drugsline Telephone Volunteer

Drugsline is a drug and alcohol charity that helps both drug addicts and their families and friends.Volunteers are needed to answer Drugsline's crisis and support telephone line as well as see drop-ins face to face. No experience necessary - training provided. We are particularly recruiting for volunteers avilable in the daytimes and volunteers who speak Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Hebrew and Yiddish. However, all applications welcome. You must be 18+.

Xmas Holiday Club Volunteers - Kenya

2008 is the 1st year Action for Children in Conflict will be running an additonal School Holiday Club over the long December Christmas Holidays for former and current street children who usually attend our Day and Interim Care Centres for street children. T
he Holiday Club offers these children a unique opportunity to interact with other peers, gain vital life skills and benefit from non formal educational activities that stimulate learning in new ways. The club also plays a vital role in providing a safe space that keeps these vulnerable children off the streets and away from the temptations of drugs, violence and crime associated with street life. The children who attend the Holiday Clubs are aged beteween 8 and 18 years and are all from extremely poor and difficult backgrounds.

ICYE UK
Volunteering opportunities still available for January 2009

ICYE-UK is particularly keen to recruit volunteers for projects in Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Uganda and Nepal. You could work with a social or environmental NGO and these projects range from working with disabled children and those living on the street, to helping to establish human rights and protecting natural reserves in Costa Rica.
In Brazil, volunteers can work with deaf children and adolescents from poor communities within Porto Allegre. Their duties involve helping with activities such as arts, music workshops and English classes. In Costa Rica volunteers have the opportunity to work for environmental projects which help promote conservation, rural development and sustainable tourism. Volunteers can assist with reforestation, rural development and environmental education, so as to educate those in the surrounding communities about their local environment. ICYE-UK can help you to find a project to suit your interests.
The cost of a 12 month placement is £4495 and the cost of a 6 month placement is £3795. These costs are all-inclusive (return flights, accommodation, food, health insurance, pocket money, visa costs and support) You will also receive full training both pre-departure and on-arrival

Support Plus is a project of The Children’s Society, which is a national children’s charity. We are currently recruiting volunteers to support disabled young people from the Middlesbrough and Stockton areas to access activities and develop their skills.
The project is offering an opportunity to volunteers with an interest in supporting young people, such as teaching or social work students. We also wish to recruit volunteers from disadvantaged and under represented groups who want to learn new skills and become more involved in their communities.

Action for Children in Conflict
Street children support worker - Kenya

The Interim Care Centre (ICC) in Thika, Kenya provides intensive rehabilitation for street children in a residential setting. The ICC is for children who find it especially hard to break from the street or whose family situations require in-depth intervention to make the home environment a safe place for the child. There, during residential care for up to six months, intensive rehabilitation and family reintegration work prepares the way for a return home. Staff members liaise with families, local institutions, schools and support organisations to facilitate each child's return to society.
We are looking for Street Children Support Workers to come and volunteer at the centre to assist us with the care and rehabilitation of the Street Children. By living in our Interim Care Centre (ICC), volunteers are given the unique opportunity to fully intergrate with the children and staff whilst gaining an invaluable insight into the work of a small NGO

Action for Children in Conflict
Holiday Club Volunteers, Kenya in August

Action for Children in Conflict’s School Holiday Club is a programme of activities during the school holidays for over 280 of the poorest school children at our partner schools, St Patrick’s and Garissa Road Primary’s in Thika (40km northeast of Nairobi in Kenya). Its primary aim is to keep children off the streets, safe and educationally stimulated during the long August summer holiday. The children who attend the Holiday Clubs are aged beteween 8 and 14 and are all from extremely poor and difficult backgrounds. Volunteers will be involved in teaching one hour lessons in the morning.
